A 3,000-ACRE NATURE PRESERVE
The Shakers were drawn to the area for its rich natural resources. Today, The Preserve at Shaker Village conserves and shares these pristine prairies, woodlands and watersheds, all abundant with the Bluegrass Region’s diverse wildlife. Unleash your trailblazing spirit as you walk, run, bike or ride 40 miles of multi-use trails in search of Kentucky wildflowers, migrating birds and WaterFest Photography. Shaker Village also helps guests get closer to nature with planned events, like night hikes, trail rides, spy safaris and more.
220-YEAR-OLD SHAKER HISTORY
Discover The Historic Centre, a collection of Shaker buildings, grounds and gardens that honor the Pleasant Hill Shaker legacy and shape the pioneering spirit of today’s guests. Home to 34 original Shaker structures, this Bluegrass Region site is Kentucky’s largest National Historic Landmark. Shaker Village’s 220-year-old spirit fuels today’s exploration, seasonal exhibits and learning adventures. Go on a horse-drawn wagon ride, watch local artisans at work and explore the country’s largest private collection of original 19th century buildings.
A WORKING FARM VACATION
Long before trendy farm-to-fork restaurants, the Shakers spent their days tending vegetables, fruits, grains and livestock to prepare wholesome feasts for nearly 500 community members. Farming was at the heart of the community, and the Shakers became known for innovation and efficiency. Today, Shaker Village is still a working farm, employing sustainable agricultural practices and providing fresh produce for The Trustees’ Table. Visit The Farm and discover organic gardening tips, four-legged friends and barnyard adventures for the entire family.
THE KENTUCKY RIVER PALISADES
Canoe, kayak or cruise the Kentucky River Palisades. Shaker Landing provides one of the few public access points to the steep gorges and limestone outcroppings that stretch for miles along the river. The same landing used by the Shakers is now the launching point of Shaker Village’s 115-passenger Dixie Belle, a favorite among paddle riverboats that takes its guests on one-hour rides. Standup paddleboard enthusiasts will want to watch for Shaker Village’s Paddle + Yoga Weekend events with SUP Yoga on the pond and Glow Paddle on the Kentucky River.
